South Carolina Algae

“Advancing Innovative Environmental Solutions for a Sustainable Future”

About Us

SC Algae , LLC

SC Algae LLC provides comprehensive services for research and harvesting of nuisance aquatic plants, including algal blooms, from ponds and shoreline communities. Our dedicated research team ensures safe transportation of this material to our facility, where we employ our patented Eco-Solids technology to convert the biomass into a safe fertilizer suitable for land use. Additionally, we offer hauling and processing services for chicken and cattle waste, applying the Eco-Solids process to eliminate harmful pathogens and capture any heavy metals. We take pride in offering sustainable fertilizer products that are environmentally safe for land applications.

"Partnering for a Greener Future: Empowering South Carolina's Next Generation of Environmental Leaders"

Optimizing Animal Waste for Beneficial Use in Fertilizer Production

Our mission is to transform animal waste into sustainable, beneficial solutions, focusing on reducing environmental impact and mitigating health risks associated with waste management. By collaborating closely with farmers, our research team utilizes our patented Eco-Solids technology to effectively neutralize harmful pathogens and capture heavy metals present in the waste. This process results in a treated material that is safely converted into fertilizer, suitable for land-use applications. Through this innovative approach, we aim to promote sustainable agricultural practices and contribute to a healthier environment.

Algal Bloom Removal and Beneficial Use: "Empowering a Greener Tomorrow with Cutting-Edge Algae Innovations"

At SC Algae, we approach harmful algal blooms with a unique, sustainability-focused perspective. Utilizing our patented Eco-Harvester techniques, we efficiently and safely remove nuisance algal blooms from aquatic environments. The harvested algae are then processed into toxin-free fertilizer, suitable for a wide range of land-use applications.

Our methods prioritize minimal disruption to aquatic ecosystems and the sediment floor, removing the algae, thus helping to prevent the release of harmful algal bloom (HAB) toxins and reducing potential public health risks to humans and animals. Our mission is to transform potentially harmful algal blooms algae into valuable natural resource products such as fertilizers, biofuels and other products, creating positive outcomes for the community.

In cases of severe algal growth, annual removal and processing may be necessary to maintain environmental health and safety.

Eco-solids Technology

Our patented Eco-solids technology plays a pivotal role in our initiatives aimed at both algal remediation and manure reprocessing. The Eco-solids recycle process (ESR) is designed to stabilize sludge effectively in complex environmental matrices. This innovative process yields an enhanced biosolids product that is completely devoid of odors, reactive heavy metals, and harmful biological pathogens. Notably, our ESR process achieves Class A certification according to the stringent standards set by the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) 503. The accompanying schematic below illustrates the mathematically optimized lime stabilization process integral to the ESR, ensuring maximum efficiency in our operations.

Shepherd Harvester Technology Transforming Toxic Algae into Useful Products

Both freshwater and marine Harmful Algal Blooms generally involve algae and cyanobacteria that produce toxins that may pose significant health threats to humans, livestock, fisheries, wildlife, and pets. Our Shepherd Harvester Technology enables the removal of these HAB species from aquatic ecosystems and allows for innovative scientific research to examine beneficial uses to these HABs. For example, one of the current EPA Approved mosquito control pesticides, which is safe to use in marine and estuarine ecosystems is a bacterial toxin - Bacillus thuringiensis israeliensis (BTI). BTI toxin only adversely affects animals with a basic pH in their gut or blood-sucking insects, such as mosquitoes. Our current research will focus on evaluating the potential for development of other biologically based products derived from a variety of HAB toxins that can be used safely in a variety of environmental applications. Other beneficial products produced from HABs may include biofuels, omega 3 lipids and other biological products.
